Which anti-fatigue mat material is best?
There is no universal best material. Nitrile rubber suits oily, greasy and industrial floors; polyurethane and high-density foams suit offices; recycled rubber suits heavy utility areas; ESD grades suit electronics and labs. Match the material to the floor conditions and standing time.
Is nitrile better than PVC for mats?
For oil, grease, coolant and many industrial floors, nitrile rubber is usually the stronger choice. PVC foam can still make sense for dry, lighter-duty or budget-sensitive areas. Compare by environment and lifecycle, not material name alone.
Are softer mat materials more comfortable?
Not always. CCOHS cautions that overly soft or thick mats can increase fatigue and trip risk. The goal is supportive resilience: enough give to reduce hard-floor discomfort, enough firmness to stay stable.
What material should I choose for a commercial kitchen mat?
Commercial kitchens usually need grease-resistant rubber, often nitrile, in a drainage format that can be lifted and cleaned. Ask for grease resistance, cleanability and any NSF listing for the exact product.
